2. Discussion- What does "Historical Significance?" mean? When should we analyze different "Historical Perspectives" of the same event? How to we form our own reasoned "Ethical Judgements" of the past?
Let's start with Significance: -How do we judge the historical significance of an event? -What factors affect the significance of an event?: Time (how recent was the event?) Location (did it happen near to us or not?) Profundity (how deeply did it affect people?) Quantity (how many people did it affect?) Durability (how long did its effects last?) Relevance (does it still affect us or not?) Available sources (How much information is available on it?) Identity (Does this event affect how we see ourselves?) Popular Culture (Do we see it in films, books, video games, etc?)... |
